Katie's Story Pre- Natal

We got pregnant with Katie around mid April. Although the pregnancy was totally unexpected, it quickly became a desirable change in our lives.

We did the routine future parents do: went to dr appts, bought cute clothes, decorated the nursery, argued over small things :) And everything went pretty routinely for us: appts were normal, emotions were normal, etc. Anyway, we had our 20 week U/S and found out it was a girl. We were psyched about that. My pregnancy was somewhat complicated: I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and also had nausea until the 9th month. I complained and whined a lot about that, I did not feel very grateful for being blessed with a baby. Finally due to my gestational diabetes, the dr scheduled a repeat U/S to see the size of the baby at 34 weeks. We went to this also very routine appointment not expecting any news except maybe: your baby is big (as many GD babies are).

Well during that U/S the technician was very quiet and she kept measuring things. Then she left the room and came back and said she needed to redo some measurements.

Finally, she called the U/S dr in and the dr came and started asking me about my family history: how tall are you, how tall are your parents, etc. The thing is I am 5.2" a nd am the tallest female in my family. Even men in my family are about my height.

Anyway, she tells us our baby's femur and humerus measure in the bottom 5%. We were like: what does this mean. She said hopefully just that this machine is wrong.

So we went home and I got on the internet and started researching. In no time I was very worried: if this was really the case, then our baby could have a number of chromosomal abnormalities most
